• (CH2OH)2 (HOCH2CH2OH)
• MEG has a low volatility and is 50% more hygroscopic than glycerol at room temperature. It has moisture retention. It may be miscible with water, low-grade aliphatic alcohols, glycerol, acetic acid, acetone, ketones, aldehydes, pyridine and many organic compounds. It is slightly soluble in ether but almost insoluble in benzene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, petroleum ether and oils. It does not dissolve rubber, cellulose acetate or heavy vegetable and petroleum oils. The lower the freezing point and the higher the boiling point, the wider the area of use.
